This design will be comprised of 12 hexagons, assembled together in a final configuration to be determined, and finished with a completely non-toxic clear oil wax (AFM Safecoat Naturals, as shown in last image above).

This piece will be built using a wide range of solid hardwoods which are native to North Carolina (also including pine wood as the state tree), with each hexagon being made from a different wood species if possible, based on the availability of wide boards.
The more common wood types that will likely be available are shown in the images above, such as: pine, poplar, red oak, maple, cherry, and ash. Ambrosia maple and butternut are also shown as examples of more unusual varieties that may be available.
Our hardwood supplier also carries the following species native to North Carolina, which we don't have photos of but can be included in this piece if wider boards are available:
- basswood
- beech
- birch
- cedar
- elm
- hickory
- honey locust
- sassafras
- sycamore
Lumber thickness is 7/8" along the outer perimeter of the honeycomb unit, with doubled thickness of 1.75" throughout the unit's interior in which all adjacent hexagon panels are joined together.

Matching solid wood brackets will be included (along with screws & instructions) to securely mount the shelving unit directly into wall studs for increased stability and safety, which is especially important since the unit will be intended for use by young children.
The brackets will need to be attached to the unit at hexagon positions which line up with wall stud locations, according to the final placement of the unit along the wall. Brackets are 7/8" thick and extend along the full width of a hexagon's upper panel, as well as about 1.5" underneath. They will be pre-drilled for attaching to the back of the shelving unit (as shown in the second to last image above), to allow clearance for a baseboard.
If the shelving unit will not be placed in front of a baseboard and will instead be mounted flush to the wall, please notify us so we can make a slightly smaller size bracket for this purpose. This style will nest inside the hexagon flush with the back, and will be pre-drilled to attach to the underside of the hexagon's upper panel.

The unit will most likely need to be divided into two sections for transport, which are reconnected through pre-drilled openings using the screws and matching drill bit that we provide (along with our emailed installation guide).
The piece will be shipped via blanket-wrapped direct transport, with assistance provided by the driver in unloading as well as carrying indoors if desired. Help will be needed from at least one other person at the delivery location.
At the time of shipping, we will let you know the estimated date range for delivery. Then as the driver gets closer to arriving, they will reach out directly to provide a more specific delivery window so you can ensure someone will be available to receive and assist with the delivery during that time.
* Most furniture carriers deliver seven days a week anytime between 8 am - 8 pm, as they are transporting by single vehicle over cross-country routes. So if you can please include the hours & days of the week that your facility can accept delivery (either in the note field during purchase or by email), then we can make sure to select a shipping carrier who can accommodate those delivery hours.
* Also during checkout, please provide the best contact number (plus an alternate number if available) to help ensure the driver will be able to reach you with the most timely advance notice before delivery. Thank you very much!
